Mix precise amounts of polymer clay colours quickly, easily, and accurately with the stepped colour card system.

This is how it works:

1. All stepped colour cards use the same easy to remember ratios. One to one, two to one, four to one etc.

2. The geometric way of measuring is identical for large or small amounts of clay.

3. You measure your clay geometrically with a time saving series of cuts.

4. Instead of struggling to mix one colour and match raw clay, you mix the series of eleven colours between the two starting colours and pick the one that cooks to the best match.

5. You can hold a stepped colour card up to anything that you want to match and the formula is right there.

Basic Tools

1. A pasta machine

2. A tissue blade, a #11 X-Acto knife and a utility knife.

3. A work surface that you can cut onto.

4. A 12 inch steel ruler.

5. A cooking surface minimum of 6 inches, 8" by 10" tile is ideal.

6. A tiny needle or pin to smooth trapped air bubbles.

7. A drill with a 1/8 inch bit. (good but not essential)

8. An oven.

9. Access to a laminator (or use plastic sheets to tape over the work cards).

10. Cutters (handy but not required) - Square 1cm x 1cm, Rectangular 1cm x 2cm

Polymer Clay - For a single colour card it takes about 6 grams of each of the two starting colours and about a gram of white clay and about 10 grams of "scrap" backing clay.

For a six card set you need about 1/4 of a standard 2oz (57 g) block of clay of each of the three starting colours. There will only be the tiniest amount left so you might want to allow a little more. I suggest using starting colours closest to cyan, magenta, and yellow. This will give you the widest range of saturated colours.

You will also need about 6 grams of white clay for the tints. Use "scrap" clay as a backing, about 10 grams per card, or about the equivalent of a block of clay for a set of six cards. It should be a neutral colour, other than that, the choice is yours.

Materials

1. Deli wrap or wax paper.

2. Alcohol and paper towel, tissue, or cloth for clean up.

3. Ball chain or wire to hold the six card set together.

4. Mat board to make a cover for the set. (optional)
